This year, when entering the challenge, my goal was to get better at crazy quilting, but I was also "enrolled" for a third year in the Bead Journal Project (where I was running out of ideas) and the Take a Stitch Tuesday "class" at Pin Tangle. When Judy Laquidara of Patchwork Ties and Vicki Welch of Field Trips in Fiber posed a Color Palette Challenge, I saw a way to merge these different online challenges into one project which would be easier to fit into my schedule.
Each month, Judy and Vicki propose a color palette derived from a photograph, a print, an object --- and I search my stash for fabric, ribbons, trims, beads which fit with that palette. I then select a block grid, sometimes with modifications, posted by Sharon B for her "I Dropped The Button Box" crazy quilt on Pin Tangle to make my basic block. I then try to use what I'm learning in the Bead Journal Project and Take a Stitch Tuesday to embellish the basic block.
No two months use the same color scheme but some colors do carry over from block to block, and I also attempt to carry over some of the seam embellishment items (notably a string of crystal beads. selected ribbons, and some laces - but I've run out of some and had to buy more as these were not the typical items in my stash). I hope the use of common elements will make the blocks work together, however different in color or theme. I f they don't, I guess I will have to make more blocks to force the issue!
Anyway, to make a long asnwer short --- no theme. Just trying to use the expertise of several online specialists and merge them into blocks I hope I can call my own designs...
That is great Carol I'm Sure that is the idea of the CPJ to use your ideas and teachings. I wish I had more but I seem to stay on much the same path but do try to try out different stitches. Good luck hope to see your finished article. Joy...NZ
This is an interesting block Carol is it part of a theme?
ReplyDeleteOK, I'll try this again for the third time...
